People are not less interesting
than mice, this is why The Solvents founded The People Lab — the
place where we can freely research human behavior, make generalizations,
and draw conclusions. Currently, The People Lab is running two
websites:
For those, who are interested in the scientific side of things,
here it is. Schizophreniacs are
traditionally subdivided into paranoiacs (behaviour: a
repetitive obsessive fear of something or someone), catanoniac (behavior:
a state of stillness, withdrawn from the world), and hebephreniacs
(inconsisent behaviour not making
any sense). The prominent anthropologist Gregory Bateson devised
a Double Bind theory in the 1950s, which explains how schizophrenia
arises. According to him, the symptoms which paranoiacs, catatoniac,
and hebephreniacs exhibit are a response to paradox communication
that we receive from the outside world. Unable to cope with the incoming
messages, we have to behave in a certain (schizophrenic) way.
Now, all this advertising trying to make us believe that it's good
to do something that really doesn't matter, all these politicians
making their own agenda seem ours, all these fashion stuff... Well,
it just makes people crazy. Some end up in hospitals. Some
start doing art (by the way, repetition=paranoia, stillness=catatonia,
and inconsistency=hebephrenia are an important part of any performance). Finally,
some people decide to make blogs, because they encompass all the
symptoms very neatly: sittting still in front of a computer,
writing a lot of inconsistent posts and one's paranoid ideas
- doesn't it sound great?
